Lesson Expectations

Creating Strong Practice Habits

Students are expected to practice a minimum of four days per week, though five days is highly recommended for the student’s growth. Practice time depends on the age and level of each student.

Christine is passionate about helping her students discover and create healthy practice habits, based upon their unique needs. Together, teacher and student form weekly practice plans, with structured guidance on how to approach each practice session. These practice plans are recorded in a weekly “Practice Journal,” which the student accesses via Google Drive. Care is taken to ensure that the student understands how to access and use their practice materials. Click on the buttons below to view sample practice journals (in a new window).

Parent/Guardian Involvement

For young students (ages 3-10), a parent/guardian’s presence in lessons and practice time is highly recommended. The teacher, student, and parent/guardian together form a “learning triangle,” the strongest form of structure and support for the student’s development. However, every student and family is unique! Each student’s specific needs will be discussed in lessons.

Whether or not a parent/guardian is present in lessons, most students need an adult’s help to form good practice habits. Christine will help students brainstorm and create a plan for their practice routines. An adult who is present at home will need to advise in this process of creating a routine and help with initial practice reminders. Young students continue to need support in these routines, while middle school aged students and older soon take their own reins.
